The facilities were awesome and the people were just wonderful!!! If you are in the Miami area, we highly recommend visiting the Miccosukee Indian Village!! The crafts & clothing are just exquisite!! They also offer air boat rides across from the village that are just amazing! I think preservation of cultural heritage is a responsibility every generation should embrace. I had the pleasure of attending a small black cultural heritage festival held in North Florida last fall--so small it doesn't even have a Website; news of it is spread by community word of mouth. Nevertheless, its organizers showcased old-fashioned crafts and skills from blacksmithing (by my 21-year-old nephew and his master blacksmith mentor) to lye soapmaking, quilting, and cooking. What an amazing trip back in time. I hope Michael and Sonya can continue attending these events and reporting on them for us. That's a tremendous service for a Web site to provide, and assimilating such information in a common place pointing out ways others can help preserve these valuable heritages and cultures is a very welcome public service.
